Some people came to this world to shine. And Tammin Sursok is one of those people- acting just seems that came naturally to her. When she was 5 years old, she was telling to her parents to sit down as she was going to put on a play for them.
Tammin was involved with the Sydney Youth Musical Theatre, where she pursued her interests in acting, music and dance. She also studied with the Trinity Speech and Drama College and graduated with a High Distinction. But her first experience on TV was when she was 15 and did her first audition for a long-running Australian drama series called Home and Away. Tammin began her role as Dani Sutherland- a rebellious older sister at first much against the move to the Bay but as her character began to evolve we discovered there was a deeper sensitive side to her.
All her amazing job as Dani gave her a Logie Award for Best New Female Talent category (2001). During 2002 Tammin was selected as Junior Youth Ambassador for New South Wales, and in 2003 received the Australian Centenary Medal for her “Service to Australian Society and Acting”. When she was just 17 years old, Tammin Sursok was offered a record deal that promised the world. She turned it down.
Her mother Julie is a classically trained pianist and guitarist so as a result, Tammin was brought up surrounded by music! In early 2004 she began recording material for her debut album Whatever Will Be- working with producers who have worked with names as Britney Spears, Dido and Christina Aguilera. Her debut single, “Pointless Relationship” became the number one most added single to Australia radio. Tammin’s beautiful voice and incredible talent conquered people, generating a good recognition on her album. As the years went by, the talent and experience of Tammin were growing up.
In early 2006 she officially moved into an apartment in Los Angeles where she begean concentrating on her acting career. At the beginning was not easy, but like every star was born to shine, with Tammin was not going to be different. One day she received a call from her agent saying she had got roles in three different jobs. She filmed a brief guest role on CBS’ Rules of Engagement, spent a month in Missouri filming a lead role in the independent film Albino Farm- where she met Sean McEwan (who would later become her husband), and has completed a supporting role in the movie Crossing Over, which stars Harrison Ford. Things just kept getting better especially when Tammin has taken on the intense role of Colleen Carlton, on the long running US soap The Young and the Restless. Her amazing job was recognized and gave her a nomination on Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series category (2008). In late 2010 she played the role of Carrie in Flicka 2 Friends Forever. Tammin made her musical comeback recording songs for the Nickelodeon musical, made-for-television movie Spectacular! released via Nick Records. She plays Courtney, a High School teenager owner of an A-type personality. Tammin loved being back in the studio again and the singing stuff was so easy to her. But the dancing took a little bit more out of her. She (and the cast) worked with some of the best choreographers, RJ Durrell, who’s Madonna’s and Britney Spears’ choreographer.
Besides many other works, Tammin got the role of the mistery & creepy Jenna Marshall in the ABC Family drama Pretty Little Liars. We must remember that a lot of an actor’s performance is in eye contact and expression but Jenna is a blind girl which generated much study and work to Tammin. She learned a bit of Braille, studied how the day-to-day life of people with visual impairments. She learned a lot about body language, about what happy looks like through your body or what being on edge looks like through your hands. Which led more experience for her too. We also can see Tammin in Hannah Montana as Jackson’s girlfriend Siena, a Disney TV Show- another new experience to her. She was shooting the both TV Shows at the same time, she was shooting days on one and nights on the other.
Tammin is a very talented and dedicated artist. We can see life in each of her characters which are quite distinct from each other. She brings a wonderful energy for each of these different stories that she has involved. The most incredible thing about this sweet lady is that she does every little thing with her heart and it’s a pleasure to us to be able to watch a job done in this way. Keep shining little star!
